The Life consulting team is expanding and has vacancies from Actuarial Executive to Associate Director levels in our Johannesburg office. The team engages with clients in over 20 African countries. The role's primary responsibilities will be running various actuarial consulting and statutory appointed related projects, including managing staff in the Life team.

Requirements:


• Degree in Actuarial Science

• 7+ years’ Life Actuarial work experience or similar environment

• Advanced Excel skills

• Knowledge of actuarial software

• Flexibility to deal with changing projects and priorities in a short space of time

• Good problem-solving skills and ability to learn new methods and processes

• Deliver within agreed deadlines and scope

• Attention to detail

• Report writing skills

• ASSA/IFoA Fellowship - 3 years post-qualified experience

• Assist in defining a clear strategy to grow the Life business

• Review reports

• Excellent presentation skills

• Manage life actuarial team

• Responsible for the team’s performance

• Support and mentor staff

• Marketing & Technical qualities

• Present at client audit/board meetings

• Problem-solving mindset


Responsibilities:


• Reserving / statutory valuations & IFRS valuations, SAM Pillar I

• Product pricing and design

• Capital modelling & Asset Liability Modelling

• Supporting the Head of the Actuarial Function / Appointed Actuary

• Reinsurance reviews

• Draft reports and communications

• Supporting the consulting actuary

• Performing market studies and research

• Embedded Value (EV) reporting

• Analysis of Surplus / Analysis of EV

• ORSAs (Own Risk & Solvency Assessments)

• FCRs (Financial Condition Reports).

• IFRS 17 Implementation, support and reviews

• Adhering to professional standards & ethical practices


Desirable Traits:


• Good communication skills

• Strong work ethic and highly motivated

• Management experience (advantageous)

• Ability to work to a deadline

• Willingness to travel to non-South African based clients/offices occasionally.
